Day 1 – Addis Ababa – Blue Nile Gorge – Debre Libanos
Start the day’s drive of 300 km north of Addis Ababa. Drive about 200 km north to the thrilling viewpoint. Enjoy the fantastic views of the Blue Nile Gorge. Drive 15 km downhill to the bridge over the Blue Nile River.
Walk over the old bridge built by Emperor Haile Selassie. See the modern suspension bridge built by the Japanese. Then, drive back and spend the night at Ethio-German Park Hotel. This hotel invites superb views to the Jemma River Gorge.
Day 2 – Debre Libanos – Addis Ababa
Visit Portuguese Bridge built in the 16th Century AD. See Gelada Baboons which are found only in Ethiopia. Take a guided tour of about 1 hour at Debre Libanos Monastery including visiting its museum.
Walk for about 15 minutes to a nearby cave. It was where Saint Tekle Haimanot has prayed for more than 7 years. St. Tekle Haimanot founded Debre Libanos Monastery in the 13th Century AD.
Then drive back to Addis Ababa. You can take a break along the drive at one of the cultural villages of the Oromo people.
BY DRIVE WEST OF ADDIS ABABA – Places to visit in 2 days from Addis Ababa
West of Addis Ababa is one of the least visited areas of Ethiopia. There are few interesting places to see in 2 days driving trip west of Addis Ababa.
