Distance: A total of approximately 420 km (260.98 miles) is covered over the two days, starting and ending in Addis Ababa.
Transportation: For solo travelers and pairs, we use Toyota Corolla. For groups of 3 to 6 people, we provide a 2016 Toyota Minivan. All vehicles are fully insured, comfortable, clean, and operated by experienced and safe drivers.

DAY 1 – ADDIS ABABA – STELES OF TIYA – BUTAJIRA – LAKE ZIWAY – LAKE LANGANO
Meet your tour guide at 7:30 AM at your hotel in Addis Ababa or Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Start today’s drive of 200 km with comfortable air-conditioned Toyota Minivan.
The first place of visit is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Steles of Tiya. On the way to Tiya, stop at a couple of viewpoints. Admire the great scenery of the Ethiopian part of the Great East African Rift Valley and to cross the bridge of the Awash River by waking.
At Tiya, take a guided tour of about half an hour. Visit 40 huge stone grave markers erected between 12th and 14th Century AD. The steles are decorated with carvings and dedicated to local warriors.
Your journey from Addis Ababa to the stunning Rift Valley Lake of Langano also includes an enriching cultural experience in the historic town of Tiya.
After exploring the UNESCO-listed archaeological wonders of the Tiya steles, you can enjoy an immersive local food class with a Gurage tribe family, gaining valuable insights into their traditional way of life.
The highlight of this visit is learning the meticulous process of preparing their staple foods—Kotcho and Bulla—made from the Enset plant, also known as the False Banana tree. This cultural encounter highlights the ingenuity of the Gurage people, who began crafting meals from Enset thousands of years ago.
From extracting the starchy pulp to fermenting and shaping it into Kotcho (a flatbread) or Bulla (a nutritious porridge), the process is both fascinating and practical. The Gurage people’s resourcefulness in utilizing Enset reflects their deep connection to the environment and centuries-old culinary traditions.
Then, with lunch break at Butajira town, head 80 km more to Lake Langano via Ziway.

DAY 2 – LAKE LANGANO – ABIDJATTA-SHALLA LAKES NP – LAKE BISHOFTU – ADDIS ABABA
Enjoy swimming and water sports in the morning. Meet your tour guide around 10:00 AM. Drive for 20 minutes to the Abidjatta-Shalla Lakes National Park. Take a walking tour in the park to see warthogs, gazelle, black backed jackal, ostriches, baboons, etc.
If you are visiting between September and December, you would see flocks of the migratory lesser and greater Flamingos. Stop also at a natural hot springs locals use for health purposes and boil eggs/corn sometimes.
The outlook to get the beautiful view of the twin lakes of Abidjatta and Shalla is worth stopping at. Then, drive back to Addis Ababa on the new Express Toll Road, with a stop at the man-made Lake of Koka to spot other bird species.
The final stop would be at the Crater Lake of Bishoftu (Debre Ziet) for the wonderful view of the lake from the rim. Here, you will also attend a typical Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony.
